One of BURP's most popular annual events took place over two days - The 18th Real Ale Competition (Nov 14) and, the following day, the Real Ale Festival (where all remaining beer was enjoyed by BURP members and special guests).

There were 39 entries in the Real Ale competition. Here, competition steward Thomas Sords prepares to fill glasses of delicious homebrewed real ale for the judges.

Ten of the entries advanced to the Best of Show round. Here, those entries are evaluated by Best of Show judges Scott Bickham, Rick Garvin, Trish Koch, and Wendy Aaronson.

On Sat, Nov 15, the Real Ale Festival brought over 100 BURP members and guests to the Aaronridge Pub in Rockville, MD. Here, festival co-host Bill Ridgely stands watch over just a few of the many kegs of real ale, all served using authentic English beer engines (hand pumps) owned and contributed by BURP members.

Everyone enjoyed fine session ales over the course of a cool but sunny day. There were also copious quantities of fantastic food provided by attendees as well as great live music .

The award for Grand Champion Real Ale of 2014 was presented to long time BURP members Bill & Christie Newman, who brewed a delicious English-style Bitter with fellow BURP member Mel Thompson. Here, Bill & Christie receive the coveted championship pewter cup from co-host Wendy Aaronson.

And the band played on. Great live roots and dixieland music was provided by the very entertaining Riverside Carnival Band. An excellent time was had by all!
